Have Your Say on Empty Rates Tax

The tax on vacant commercial properties at full rate was alleviated when the government introduced a policy for relief on properties under the rateable value of £18,000 pa. This was removed in April 2011.

You can now have your vote and sign up to a e-petition to reinstate the relief. The petition ends on the 5th of August the e-petition address is www.tinyurl.com/bmwk3tc

A tax on no income is hard to justify in any situation, but to carry on implementing full business rates on vacant property when the government is advocating for development is contradictory and is depressing new builds.. This is a policy which is strangling speculative building at a time when the economic outlook is already lifeless.
